Ovary- Cystic teratoma, dermoid cyst The specimen is from an enlarged ovary. The cyst (epithelial-lined sac containing fluid) has white color and smooth outer surface. The cut surface shows thin wall cyst with content containing hair and yellow sedum inside the ovarian cyst. Cystic teratoma is a benign tumor originating from germ cell of ovary that are characterized by content which are composed of tissues from three germ layers (ectoderm, mesoderm and endoderm). The hair is differentiated from ectoderm layer. Presence of other tissues must be confirmed microscopically.
