Liver-Hemosiderosis This is a liver from a thalassemia patient who had received multiple blood transfusions. The liver is enlarged and has a brick red brown discoloration. This discoloration results from deposition of hemosiderin pigment obtained from the hemoglobin. The accumulation of hemosiderin pigment is a consequence of increased breakdown of red blood cells in these patients.
