Spleen-Hemosiderosis This spleen was obtained from a thalassemia patient. Thalassemia is a type of hereditary hemolytic anemia that is prevalent in Thailand. The spleen from this patient is enlarged (splenomegaly) and shows a rusty brown appearance due to reactive hyperplasia of splenic parenchyma and increase in tissue iron storage (hemosiderosis).
